Cinnamon Sugar Scrub

Cold dry weather can be extremely harsh for your skin. I know its definitely been effecting mine, hence the decision to make this all-natural nourishing body scrub. It honestly takes less than ten minutes to make and all the ingredients are probably already in your kitchen (oats, sugar, coconut oil, cinnamon, and vanilla extract).

The oats contained in the scrub help fight off dull, flaky skin because of the polysaccharides they contain which help form a thin protective film when applied to your skin. The sugar also helps counter dryness as it’s a natural humectant, meaning it helps draw moisture from the environment into your skin. The coconut oil acts as a skin softener. The cinnamon helps bring blood to the surface of the skin causing a pleasant plumping effect (reduces fine lines). The vanilla extract contains antioxidants which helpsoothe irritated skin. Finally, the coarse texture of the scrub acts as an exfoliant helping to slough off dead skin cells.

I’m enjoying mine so much (and it was so unbelievably easy…) I’m thinking of making more as gifts!

RECIPE

3/4 c organic oats
3/4 c organic brown sugar
3/4 c  organic white sugar
3/4 c  organic coconut oil
1/2 tsp cinnamon (I couldn’t help myself and used closer to a full teaspoon…)
1 tsp pure vanilla extract

Assembly:

  1. In a food processor, pulse oats until coarse sugar-like texture
  2. Heat coconut oil in sauce pan or in the microwave until it’s in a liquid form
  3. Mix all ingredients together in a large bowl
  4. Portion scrub out into individual jars
  5. Store in a cool place for up to three months
