We encourage everyone and anyone, new and experienced, to partake in our juice cleanse. Cleansing is a great way for all of us to gently detoxify and give our digestive system a rest while flooding our cells with the nutrients and phytochemicals to rebuild healthy tissue. That said, we don’t recommend that pregnant women, children, or if you have a health condition partake in juice cleansing. Please see next question for more details.
Juice cleansing is not advised if you are: pregnant or nursing, diabetic or severe hypoglycemic, suffering from severe kidney, liver disease, oxalate kidney stones, anorexia nervosa, the immunosuppressed, significant weight loss due to serious illness such as cancer, AIDS, or other serious infections, mitochondrial disease, or those taking blood thinners, chemotherapy, diuretics, insulin, blood pressure, or long term steroid medications. While people with these conditions or are taking medications may be able to add fresh juices as a part of their healthy diet, we recommend speaking with your personal physician, first.
All of our juices are organic, nutritionally dense, and loaded with natural vitamins, minerals antioxidants, and phytochemicals. The calorie content varies from juice to juice, but we try to focus more on the nutrient content rather than the calorie count. Fruit juices and nut milks can contain more calories as opposed to vegetable juices, which tend to be much lower in calories and sugar. If calories and sugar are a concern for you, we suggest our delicious Greens 1 , Greens 3 , and Lemon Cayenne Ginger juices. For more information on the nutritional content of each specific juice, please visit our menu page for full details.
We use a twin-gear juicer called the Angel. The gears rotate inward with a gap of 0.1 mm precision and operate slowly (approximately 80-160 RPM) to open the cellulose walls of the produce and release the nutrients and enzymes. This slow movement eliminates oxidation to the juices and keeps the nutrients closest to its rawest form. As a result, each bottle can be kept in sealed, refrigerated containers for up to 5 days with little loss of taste, nutrients, or colour.
Centrifugal juicers work by using a flat cutting blade at the base of a rapidly spinning strainer, pushing the produce through tiny holes in the strainer. Heat, static electricity, and large amounts of air are drawn in, and nutrients and enzymes are destroyed as oxidation occurs. In contrast to the rough extraction and high speeds of centrifugal juicers, cold press juicers operate at lower speeds and gently compress fruit and vegetables to squeeze out their juice. While more costly, their slower and more thorough extraction rates produce a higher-quality juice.
Freshly pressed raw juices are completely different from the processed juices you find in the grocery store. Grocery store juices are processed, contain preservatives, are heated, and have been sitting on a shelf indefinitely. Some juices also have added sugar, often in the form of high fructose corn syrup, and contain very little actual juice. These juices retain very little of their initial nutrient value and are essentially fruity sugar water. Fresh cold-pressed juices, on the other hand, are prepared fresh daily using a special cold-press process with minimal exposure to nutrient-damaging heat, light, and time. They contain all the live enzymes, antioxidants, phytonutrients, vitamins, and minerals—just as nature intended.
There are two types of fiber: insoluble fiber and soluble fiber. Insoluble fiber such as bran stays intact throughout the digestive system. Soluble fiber turns into a gel within the body, acting like a gentle broom to clear away toxins, balance blood sugar, keeps you feeling full, lowers cholesterol, and keeps the digestive system moving without irritation. While many people believe that juicing removes all of the fiber from fresh produce, it actually only removes the insoluble fiber. The gentler soluble fiber remains within the juice to flush away impurities and keep things moving without the potential GI (gastrointestinal) irritation of insoluble fiber.
This may come as a surprise, but we don’t need as much protein as many of us are led to believe, nor is it essential to eat meat, dairy, or soy in order to get enough protein. Truth is, if we’re eating enough whole food calories (e.g., raw vegetables, nuts, seeds, and algae) we’re almost certainly getting enough protein. Additionally, cooking decreases the amount of absorbable protein in food by 50% or more, so fresh raw vegetable juices are among the most absorbable, bioavailable forms of protein. Pure, raw spirulina is one of the most concentrated forms of protein on the planet, and has been a main traditional protein source in a variety of cultures for many years. If you’re concerned about your protein intake, consider adding a shot of spirulina per day to supplement your cleanse, but only if you do not have a seafood or iodine allergy.
We get all of our produce from Pro Organics, our nuts and supplements from Real Raw, and connect with local farmers whenever possible through Farm Folk City Folk. If, for whatever reason we’re not able to purchase organic produce, we always ensure to buy local.
Only additives can prevent the natural settling process and we don’t use any in our juices. Before drinking, be sure to give your juice a good shake!
Yes! Our juice cleanse is developed to cleanse your organs in a specific order and in a way that best benefits you and your health.
If kept cold, our juices should stay fresh for 4-5 days. That said, we strongly recommend that your drink your juice within 72 hours.
No. We currently only deliver our juice cleanse on Sunday, Wednesday, and Friday evenings. We recommend starting your cleanse the following morning as our juices have a short shelf life.
Yes, but be gentle. You’re still getting nutrition, but it’s wise to beware of the lower volume of foods. It’s an adjustment period for your body and you want to treat it with upmost care. While going for a light jog or power walk around the neighborhood is fine, we recommend sticking to yoga or pilates for that added effect of deep breathing to help you maximize your cleanse.
We offer a flat rate of $5.00 CAD to have your juice cleanse delivered. Alternatively, you can also pick up your cleanse for no charge at between 5PM and 6PM.
