Delicious drunk chilled, but can also be warmed up as a comforting treat on a rainy day

Chaga mushrooms have anti-aging properties, help boost the immune system, normalize cholesterol levels and blood pressure, support healthy digestion, and help alleviate stress. We use a traditional Chinese medicine process to extract the mushroom nutrients. The mushrooms are boiled down three times over the course of an entire day to achieve the best concentration.

We also use TRUE cinnamon. Most of the cinnamon purchased in grocery stores isn’t the real thing and doesn’t necessarily contain the health benefits cinnamon is known for (high in anti-oxidants, anti-inflammatory properties, lowers blood sugar, etc).

Peter Rabbits Snacks

Organic Raw Carrot Cake Bliss Balls

Have you ever wondered what to do with your leftover nut mylk meal? Well one of my favourite things to do is to turn it into is a bliss ball recipe! Grab yourself a bottle of the “Peter Rabbit” Carrot Cashew Nut Mylk, make a batch of these, and you will be one happy bunny!

Fiber ~ Omega 3’s ~ Vitamin A ~ Potassium 

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of leftover nut meal from making mylk (make sure it’s well squeezed with little moisture)
  • 1 cup of raw nuts (walnuts, pecans, almonds or cashews all work nicely)
  • 1 cup of carrots, finely shredded
  • 1 tsp. of fresh ginger, grated on microplane
  • 8 medijool dates, pitted
  • ¼ cup of hemp hearts
  • 3 tbsp. of pure maple syrup (or raw honey for vegan version)
  • 1 tsp. of pure vanilla extract (look for non-alcoholic)
  • 1 ½ heaping tsp. of cinnamon
  • ½ heaping tsp. of nutmeg
  • ½ cup of unsweetened shredded coconut (for rolling)
  • ½ cup of raisins
  • 1 tsp. of orange zest

Method:

1. In a large “S-Blade” food processor, add all ingredients (except for the coconut), and pulse until the mixture turns into a dough-like consistency.

* You want the dates to be completely blended throughout

2. Using a spatula, transfer mixture into a large mixing bowl. Stir in raisins.

3. Refrigerate the mixture for a bit so it can firm up. This makes rolling less sticky!

4. Once chilled, roll small golf ball size balls between your hands, and then in shredded coconut.

5. Line in an airtight container and store in the freezer for when you need a sweet, healthy treat!

  • To maximize the taste and health benefits of this recipe, do your best to choose quality organic ingredients.

How to make our Family Farm Green Juice https://www.thejuiceryco.ca/how-to-make-green-juice/ https://www.thejuiceryco.ca/how-to-make-green-juice/#respond Wed, 27 Apr 2016 06:24:23 +0000 https://www.thejuiceryco.ca/?p=3236 Every month our Family Farm green juice recipe changes based on the organic produce we can get locally! This juice has no fruit, just veggies! It’s great for those who are diabetic or just want an unsweetened green juice.

Up at The Family Farm this summer we are growing field cucumbers, green kale, black kale, cucumber, celery, carrots, beets, mint, cilantro and lavender! Our Family Farm juice will soon consist of all produce that we grow ourselves in Pemberton, BC!

In this how-to juicing video Grace and Alex Troll show you how to use a centrifugal juicer. Although we use a Cold Press juicer in The Juicery kitchen we know that lots of our customers use a Centrifugal juicer at home! There are positives and negatives to both juicers. A Cold Press machine retains more live nutrients in the juice as the machine does not heat up and uses a slow press to squeeze out the juice. It lasts for 3-4 days and tastes extra delicious! However, Cold Press machines are more expensive and produce less juice than a Centrifugal machine. If you’re new to juicing a Centrifugal machine may be the best way to start, if you find you’re using it everyday we suggest you invest in a cold press machine!

Our suggestions:

1) Cold Press Machines: Omega or Angels Juicer.

2) Centrifugal Machine: Breville Juicer

The Family Farm Recipe:

Yields: 500ml

1/2 Field Cucumber
4 pieces of Rainbow Swiss Chard
1/4 Fennel bulb
3 pieces of Celery with leaves on
1 thumb size of Ginger
6 pieces of Green Kale

Note – You can add half a lemon for an extra boost of flavour!

We will be sharing more how-to juicing videos and farm adventures on our You Tube channel , to follow along subscribe here.

One of our local favourites is Tao Organics, an all organic, all vegan, mostly raw, all wheat and dairy free cafe. The cuisine is not only delicious, but also beautiful! The vibrant colours of the fresh produce cannot be beat.

Everything on the menu is tasty, but our go to are the Pavarti Rolls. They’re made with a nut and seed pâté and a raisin, curry, ginger chutney rolled into a collard leaf with julienned carrots and red bell pepper. AMAZING!

You’ll find Tao on the corner of Esplanade and Rogers Ave just up from Lonsdale Quay.

Farm Life https://www.thejuiceryco.ca/farm-life/ https://www.thejuiceryco.ca/farm-life/#respond Fri, 08 Apr 2016 19:34:41 +0000 https://www.thejuiceryco.ca/?p=3128 Farm Life

Spring is here! The fish are jumping in the pond, the apple trees are budding, the birds singing and the frogs are croaking. The farm is coming alive and reminding me of all the work ahead of us…

We have started work on the test garden. Building up the beds and getting rid of grass and weeds. The plan is to start some kale, cucumbers, parsley, cilantro and many flowers. I can’t wait to see the sweet peas, sunflowers and other flowers bring the bees to the garden.

The other rather large task at hand is the pruning of the trees. We are lucky to have an abundance of apple, pear and plum trees but they require some tending to make it easier to harvest, and to keep the bears at bay. Last fall we struggled to get them picked as the trees were so dense and tall and as a result we ended up with a resident bear. It’s nice to see wildlife up here, deer and bears, but they do wreak havoc on the gardens if they get a taste of a food source. I found a very large nose print on the window of the garage door…a bear poking around already…

We’ve received the high tunnel and are preparing the land beneath it. Thankfully we have found a crew to help us build and raise up the structure! We’ll grow cucumbers, celery and a few other more sensitive crops in there, safe from most pests and the elements. We’ve also started roto tilling the acre on the field where we will plant the carrots, beets and kale. I’ll get some soil samples this week to determine if we need to add any nutrients as it’s been an organic hay field for the past couple of years. It was to transition to potatoes this year but we are not potato farmers.

Best of all is the new farm pup Stella. She is a smart, now 14 week old, King Shepard/Caucasian Shepard cross. Already protecting and watching she and Murphy (French Bulldog and ‘wanna be farm dog’) are enjoying the longer sunny days outside with us.

I sit here feeling very thankful. The love that is being poured into this farm will grow in the produce and reflect in our juice. The dream of producing our own local, organically grown vegetables is slowly becoming a reality.

Farm to bottle with love and care,
Christina

The January Juice Club https://www.thejuiceryco.ca/the-january-juice-club/ https://www.thejuiceryco.ca/the-january-juice-club/#respond Tue, 05 Jan 2016 05:00:41 +0000 https://www.thejuiceryco.ca/?p=2993 January is the time to Start Fresh with new health routines and mindful goals for the New Year. It’s a time to reflect on the decisions we made in the past year and look at what held us back from achieving our previous goals.

Everything we do is connected to how we feel, our health is vital to being the best version of ourselves. Cold pressed, organic juice is amazing because it’s absorbed directly into your blood stream and gives you quick access to a range of nutrients you may not usually include in your diet. However, as much as we know juice is very important we also know there are other components needed to achieve our New Year goals.

Juice can be an anchor to an overall lifestyle change; the decision to eat mindfully and consume only whole foods.

This January, The Juicery Co. family has formulated a program that will support your mind, body and soul towards becoming the best version of you.

We can’t wait to kick January off with a two day health workshop, Start Fresh at the Shipyards Pipe Shop on January 2nd and 3rd then continue the month with health programs hosted by Lauren Paton, RHN & Alex Troll, The Juicery Co-Founder at our Lonsdale shop!

The Juicery presents the JANUARY JUICE CLUB: two unique weekly group meetings at the Lonsdale location to discuss health progress and receive nutritional counseling.

The program includes weekly contact with our in-house nutritionist for some individual tips, reading material and recipe suggestions – it will be fun! Join us on this group journey to health & wellness. These programs will commence on January 6th after Start Fresh workshop and finish on Sunday January 31st with a final meeting to summarize takeaways, if you’re interested in starting earlier please contact [email protected] to organize.

1. A Green Juice a Day ~ $359 (Includes delivery and nutritional counseling)

Fresh green juice delivered to your home or office on Wednesdays and Sundays throughout January

2. A Month of Juice, Soup and Meal Plans! ~ $1100 (Includes delivery and nutritional counseling)

You will receive recipe skeletons to use throughout the month, nutritional coaching, and weekly meetings at our Lonsdale location! You will enjoy three juices and one soup daily for the month of January. On top of the juice and soup we will coach you on other recipes to try! Delivery will be on Monday, Wednesday and Sunday evenings.

Plant-Based Eating https://www.thejuiceryco.ca/plant-based-eating/ https://www.thejuiceryco.ca/plant-based-eating/#respond Tue, 01 Dec 2015 22:42:17 +0000 https://www.thejuiceryco.ca/?p=2963 An Introduction to Healthy Plant-Based Eating

This little guide is designed to make transitioning to a heavily plant-based diet easy, fun and exciting! Let’s get down to basics…

Vegan vs. Plant-Based

By definition, a vegan diet consists of all foods excluding animal products and animal by-products including eggs, dairy, honey etc. A plant-based diet, by definition is a diet derived from plants, including vegetables, whole grains, legumes and fruits, but with few or no animal products. A plant-based diet can mean something different to everybody.

Plant-Based Protein Sources

There is often a misconception that it is difficult to find protein in a vegetarian or vegan diet. This is untrue…it actually quite easy and effortless! Plants, grains and nuts all contain natural sources of protein and if you eat a variety of each of those, it is easy to meet your daily requirements. Here are a few sources where you can find contentrated sources of plant-based protein:

Quinoa
Rye
Beans (chickpeas, black, pinto, etc.)
Soy (opt for fermented soy products like tempeh & miso)
Green peas
Nuts & Nut butter
Leafy Greens
Hemp Seeds, Chia Seeds

B12? Iron?

Vitamin B12 and Iron are big concerns that arise when people talk about vegetarianism/veganism. After doing lots of research, I realized that it’s just as easy to find B12 and iron as it is protein in a vegan diet! Vitamin B12 is known to be only found in animal sources, but this is false.

Your large intestine actually produces B12 naturally, so we only require small amounts of it anyways. Your body can store B12 for many years after consuming it, so supplementing with B12 is not always necessary right away. Another great way to find B12 is in fermented foods such as raw sauerkraut and kombucha!

Iron is also often a worry, because we seem to be taught that iron only comes from red meat, which is also not true.

Some great iron rich plant-based food sources are blackstrap mollases (look for raw, unsulphured organic), chickpeas, black beans, spirulina, quinoa, oats, lentils, cashews, raw cocoa, spinach, pumpkin seeds, leafy greens, tofu, tempeh and tahini.

IMG_6143

Foods to Heal Your Gut & Promote Digestion

Lemon water & apple cider vinegar in the morning (to produce HCl acid for good digestion and to get your system active first thing in the morning)
Aloe Vera Juice (to soothe and heal)

Probiotics such as kombucha, raw sauerkraut, etc. to create healthy bacteria in your gut, which can promote proper digestion, help with immunity and other problems

Skin-Healthy Foods

We all love beautiful, glowing skin and that’s just one of the amazing benefits of following a plant-based diet! Including healthy fats in your diet can really help repair damaged skin. Some of my favourite skin-healthy foods include:

Berries
Leafy Greens
Garlic
Turmeric
Avocado
Lemons/Limes
Papaya
Coconut (oil, milk, butter)
Activated Coconut Charcoal

Why Carbs are your Best Friend

Wait, what? Carbs are good? YES! Carbs are indeed good! In fact, carbs are your best friend when it comes to a plant-based diet. Focusing meals around good carbohydrates like yams, potatoes, rice, veggies, fruits, lentils, beans, etc. are all great sources of energy that your body loves.

Some great quick & easy high-carb meal options are:

Steamed rice, beans and sweet potatoes with your favourite veggies.
Cooked oatmeal
Baked potatoes

Loading up a smoothie with a 4-6 ripe spotty bananas is a great way to provide energy (fructose which is converted into glucose, which is your body’s and brain’s preferred source of energy) for a pre-workout or a big day ahead of you. Fruit is very easily digested and is a great option any time of the day. I recommend to never ever ever restrict your fruit intake.

IMG_6154

Blending Vs. Juicing

Smoothies and juices often play a big role in a plant-based diet, or a healthy diet in general. They are both great ways to get your veggie/fruit intake! Smoothies make for an awesome breakfast

Juicing takes away the fiber in fruit/veg, which leaves you with easily digested nutrients that can sink into your blood stream easily. Juice is a great option if you are looking for a quick energy boost, if you aren’t able to stomach food, if you are dealing with inflammation, a common cold, digestion issues or if you need a quick way to get in some extra greens! Always opt for organic, cold-pressed, unpasteurized or “raw” juice, like The Juicery Co. juices!

Smoothies are your best friend!

Smoothies are a great way to get in a good amount of calories and healthy carbohydrates for the day. Having a smoothie for breakfast is a good option because fruit and veggies are easily digested first thing in the morning. Smoothies contain fiber so they are more filling than juice. Keeping frozen fruit in your freezer will help make blending much easier.
