Q&A — Kismet’s Coco Rinse

Coco Rinse is your newest health and wellness creation. What is coconut oil pulling?

Oil pulling is a long practiced tradition of taking a spoonful of oil like sesame or coconut oil, and swirling and pulling the oil around your mouth and teeth for 10-20 minutes (20 minutes for best results), before spitting it out. Always make sure to spit the oil into a trash can afterwards, so you don’t clog your pipes. After you’re finished, brush and floss your teeth as you normally would. Coco Rinse is a bit different than the traditional method of oil pulling, as we’ve blended it with organic peppermint flavouring for a minty taste, great for beginners. Our kit also comes with 14 individual sachets that are perfect for oil pullers on the go or for those who travel a lot.

What are the benefits of incorporating coconut oil pulling into your daily routine?

Oil pulling comes with some wonderful benefits, the main ones being whiter teeth, fresher breath and healthier gums. The oil has the ability to break through and cut down plaque and tartar build up on your teeth making them appear whiter and it is also effective at fighting the bacteria found in your mouth that causes bad breath. Oil pulling also has some other great reported benefits because of its ability to pull out toxins in your mouth. We will have customers call us and say their skin has improved, or their digestion has never been better, or their headaches have stopped, but it really has a different effect on everyone. Everyone has a different experience.

How long should you oil pull for?

For best results we always recommend that you oil pull for 20 minutes. This will give the oil more time to break down the plaque and tartar on your teeth and remove toxins in your mouth. If you are just beginning to oil pull, or are in a hurry, don’t stress out if you only get 5-10 minutes in! As you get more familiar and comfortable with oil pulling, you can work your way up. I’ve found that the longer I oil pull for, time flies by and it becomes almost therapeutic. No one can talk to me for 20 minutes and I can just sit and focus on my day ahead.

Why is coconut oil pulling beneficial for hangovers?

This links back to oil pulling being able to pull a lot of bad bacteria and toxins from your mouth. After a night of drinking, many of those toxins and bacteria are still residing in your mouth, so oil pulling can help to pull those out and help you feel better. If I had a few too many the night before, one of the first things I will do is get up and oil pull. Just the feeling of having a clean mouth makes me feel so much better. I find it also helps to calm my headache if I’m suffering from one.

If you could be a vegetable or fruit what would it be and why?

I literally had to get up and look in my fridge for this one! That’s tough, but I would have to say an Avocado. I feel they are so versatile and wear many hats, from being in smoothies to dressings, to salads, to desserts. Right now with my business I also wear a lot of hats, doing everything from design, to sales, to accounting, to filling orders so I feel I can relate to them. As corny as it sounds, I might seem hard on the outside, but I’m actually a big softy with a big heart on the inside!
